Best things I bought in 2018
A quick illustrated rundown of fun purchases from the year
GoPro HERO
I’ve never really thought about buying a GoPro before, instead relying on my phone for videos, but after purchasing this one - I’m a massive convert.
It’s waterproof, solidly built, small and with a wide range of accessories.
I also bought the head mount, and suction cup mount — these are a little fiddly to configure but work great when they are set up.
It’s lots of fun to play with the field of view settings and various modes like timelapse video. The image stabilisation is the best I’ve seen in such a small product.

Moccamaster KBG
These wonderfully solid, hand-built coffee machines from the Netherlands are a joy to use. Makes great coffee too.

DJI Osmo Mobile 2
I’m a big fan of DJI products, and the Osmo Mobile 2 camera stabiliser is no different. You clip in your smartphone, calibrate it and off you go. I didn’t bother using the software it came with.
Really easy to use, and the result is super-smooth shots like the one below.
Pocari Sweat
This nectar of the gods is the ultimate hangover cure. I got a slab of 30 x 245ml cans on eBay for around £40 including delivery. Great investment.
Boosted Mini X
My son has learnt to ride a bike and I found it difficult to keep up with him on cycle paths around London parks. So I bought a Boosted board.
Before getting this, I’d not been on a skateboard for two decades, so was a little apprehensive stepping onto this powered board.
It’s brutally fast — anything other than the beginner and eco modes is far too quick for me for now.
